28 South Africans Advance to Weekend Rounds at AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

A total of 28 South African golfers have progressed to the weekend at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open after successfully making the cut following Round 2.

Pepperell and Brown Lead; Lamprecht Close Behind

England’s Eddie Pepperell and Denmark’s Hamish Brown share the lead at eight under heading into Round 3. South Africa’s Christo Lamprecht is the highest-placed South African, just one shot behind the leaders at seven under par.

Also in contention are Louis De Jager at six under, along with Jacques Blaauw, Dylan Naidoo, and Christiaan Burke, who sit at five under par.

Lamprecht’s Aggressive Play Keeps Him in the Hunt

Lamprecht recorded a second-round 68 to complement his opening-round 69, placing him one stroke off the lead. His performance was marked by six birdies and an eagle in Round 2, building on the six birdies he scored in the first round.

However, his aggressive playstyle led to two bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3 eighth hole. If Lamprecht can limit errors while maintaining his birdie streak, he will remain a strong contender through the weekend.

De Jager Consistent, Blaauw, Naidoo, and Burke Stay in Contention

Louis De Jager, 37, also posted a second-round 68 to reach six under par. His bogey-free round featured four birdies on the back nine, carding a back-nine 32 after an even-par 36 on the front nine.

Three South Africans—Jacques Blaauw, Dylan Naidoo, and Christiaan Burke—are tied at five under par, trailing the leaders by three strokes.

Naidoo and Burke both produced bogey-free second rounds, crucial for staying in contention over the final two days. Burke shot a five-under 67, highlighted by five birdies, following an even-par first round. Naidoo recorded a three-under 69 to build on his opening-round 70.

Blaauw, meanwhile, will aim to improve after a second-round 71, which included four birdies but was offset by three bogeys.

Other South Africans to Watch

Other South Africans who made the cut and remain in the hunt, particularly those at three under or better, will be looking to challenge the leaders with two rounds still to play:

  • -4: Trevor Fisher Jnr, Jovan Rebula, Wilco Nienaber, Jayden Schaper
  • -3: Jonathan Broomhead, Richard Sterne, Luke Brown, Wynand Dingle
  • -2: Jean Hugo, Thomas Aiken, Nikhil Rama
  • -1: Deon Germishuys, Casey Jarvis, Justin Walters, Keenan Davidse, Yurav Premlall
  • Even: Ryan Van Velzen
  • +1: Jason Roets
  • +2: Justin Harding, Altin Van Der Merwe, Anthony Michael
  • +3: CJ Du Plessis
  • +6: Kyle Barker

With two rounds remaining, South Africa’s contingent remains well-positioned to contend for the title.

On his first trip to Mauritius and treating it as a belated honeymoon with his wife, Jennifer, Eddie Pepperell is in the mix to win.

After losing his full playing rights last season, you would certainly be hard pushed to find a more popular winner 👇🏻#AfrAsiaBankMauritiusOpen
