BULAWAYO – Fresh off her match-winning heroics in Friday’s tour opener, Anneke Bosch delivered another masterclass, this time with both bat and ball, to fire the Proteas Women to an emphatic 64-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Queens Sports Club on Sunday afternoon.
Backed by an explosive return to form from Faye Tunnicliffe and a career-best three-wicket burst from young legspinner Seshnie Naidu, South Africa piled on 193/3, their fifth-highest team total in T20I history, before restricting the hosts to 129/7 to double their advantage in the five-match series.

Bosch Blitz and Tunnicliffe Fireworks Set Imposing Total
After South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and opted to set a target, it was Bosch who seized immediate control of the innings. While Wolvaardt uncharacteristically struggled for fluency before falling lbw to Tendai Makusha for 10, Bosch carried straight on from her blistering 83 on Friday.
The 33-year-old launched an all-out assault on the Zimbabwean bowling, rocketing to a 24-ball half-century studded with nine boundaries. Bosch anchored a rapid 64-run stand for the second wicket alongside Nondumiso Shangase (23 off 25 balls), taking the visitors to the brink of three figures in the 11th over.
When Bosch sliced Michelle Mavunga to cover for a sparkling 65 off just 31 deliveries (strike rate 209.67) and Shangase followed shortly after, Zimbabwe hoped for a reprieve.
Instead, Faye Tunnicliffe, back in the national setup for the first time in nearly a year, slammed the door shut. After taking nine balls to sight the conditions, Tunnicliffe put on an aerial clinic on the off side, blasting four massive sixes and three fours on her way to a 33-ball fifty (52* off 34 balls).
Joined by the power-hitting Annerie Dercksen (36* off 20 balls; 3 fours, 2 sixes), the pair combined for an unbroken 88-run partnership off just 50 deliveries, unleashing a devastating late-innings flurry that propelled South Africa to 193/3.
Naidu and Bosch Stifle Zimbabwe Chase
Facing a target far beyond their previous record T20I chase of 120, Zimbabwe’s reply faltered almost immediately. Eliz-Mari Marx set the standard with a wicket maiden, cleaning up Sharne Mayers off the third ball of the innings.
Friday’s debut star Nthabiseng Nini then showed sharp reflexes off her own bowling, sprinting almost to the batting crease to snare a high top-edge from Kelis Ndhlovu (13).
From there, 20-year-old legspinner Seshnie Naidu took centre stage. Turning the ball both ways, Naidu ripped through the middle order with career-best figures of 3/26 in four overs. She had Beloved Biza (10) caught at deep mid-wicket by Bosch, plucked a sharp return catch to remove Loreen Tshuma, and produced a classic turning delivery to clean bowl top-scorer Nyasha Gwanzura (18), reducing the home side to 51/5.
Bosch then showcased her golden touch with the ball, snaring two leg-before dismissals in consecutive overs, including the key wicket of Modester Mupachikwa, to finish with astonishing figures of 2/5 in two overs.
With the hosts languishing at 84/7, 17-year-old Christine Mutasa provided late cheer for the Bulawayo crowd, striking an unbeaten 30 off 26 balls in a spirited 45-run stand alongside captain Nomvelo Sibanda (15*). While Zimbabwe showed commendable grit to bat out their 20 overs, South Africa’s commanding first-innings total ensured the result was never in doubt.
What Comes Next
With back-to-back comprehensive victories under their belt, the Proteas Women enter the third T20I on Tuesday firmly in the driver’s seat, needing just one more win to wrap up the five-match series.
