During the qualifying rounds, both De Klerk and his teammate Hercules Aucamp secured their spots in the next round with impressive scores of 692 and 676, respectively. De Klerk’s journey to the podium was filled with hard-fought victories, starting with a nail-biting match against Singapore’s Hong Shen LIM, where he secured a 140-139 win. In the Quarter-Finals, De Klerk faced Italy’s Alex Baggiatto in a tightly contested battle, emerging victorious with a two-point lead.

Facing off against Victor Bouleau from France in the Semi-Finals, De Klerk demonstrated unwavering consistency across all five rounds, securing a 139-137 win and a spot in the final.
In the final match, De Klerk squared off against India’s Sangampreet Bisla in a spectacle of archery mastery. Both athletes displayed incredible precision, with Bisla scoring a near-perfect 149 and De Klerk following closely behind with a remarkable 147. The thrilling contest culminated in Bisla taking the gold medal by a mere two-point margin, while De Klerk celebrated his well-deserved silver medal, making history for Team South Africa.
