South Africa showcased an exemplary performance, clinching their second consecutive win in the World Cup against Australia by 134 runs. The triumph was a testament to the collective effort of the entire team, with each player contributing significantly throughout the match. Spearheaded by De Kock’s remarkable 109 off 106 deliveries, marking his second century in the tournament, and well-supported by Markram’s quick fire 56 off 44, South Africa amassed a commendable score of 311, with every batsman making valuable contributions.

The South African bowling unit exhibited exceptional coordination, displaying both wicket-taking prowess and impressive discipline in terms of conceding runs. With this win, South Africa maintains an undefeated record, currently leading the log with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). On the other hand, Australia finds themselves in a challenging position, having suffered consecutive defeats and still striving to secure their first victory in the tournament.

Solid Batting Display By Proteas
The initial stages of the game saw South Africa losing the toss, leading to Australia electing to send them to bat first. Both teams were uncertain about the pitch conditions, given that the previous highest ODI score batting first on this pitch was a modest 253. Consequently, it became evident that the batsmen needed to acclimatize to the pitch’s characteristics. The South African opening pair of De Kock and Captain Bavuma set a solid foundation, establishing a commanding 108-run partnership in just 19.4 overs
Recognizing the importance of varying the pace to control the flow of runs on this challenging pitch, Australia quickly introduced Glen Maxwell into the attack. Maxwell proved to be the standout performer among the Australian bowlers, claiming the wickets of both South African openers while only conceding 34 runs in his 10-over spell, without letting any boundaries slip through. However, the Australian bowling unit lacked the necessary variety, frequently deviating from the required lines and lengths, allowing the South African batsmen to maintain a steady scoring rate.
Despite occasional breakthroughs triggered by slower ball variations, the South African middle-order showcased resilience, building crucial partnerships with each batsman contributing significantly. Van Der Dussen (26 off 30), Markram (56 off 44), Klaasen (29 off 27), Miller (17 off 13), and Jansen (26 off 22) propelled South Africa beyond the crucial 300-run mark.

Australia could not get solid start
Learning from the South African innings, Australia initiated their batting cautiously, yet their cautious approach couldn’t prevent the early blows dealt by South African pacers. Lungi Ngidi’s impeccable opening spell of 3 overs, including a maiden over and conceding only 4 runs, set the tone for Australia’s early collapse. With Ngidi dismissing Warner and Jansen claiming Marsh, Australia never seemed to recover, ultimately spiraling to 71/6 by the end of 18 overs.
As South Africa introduced their second spinner Shamsi to exploit the pitch conditions, the game’s momentum had already tilted in their favor. The South African bowlers continued to apply pressure, restricting the Australian batting lineup to a meager total of 177 runs, at a run rate of less than 4.5 per over, a rare occurrence in contemporary white-ball cricket.
Both Teams Looking Ahead
The victory marks a significant morale boost for South Africa, highlighting the collective efforts of the team. Looking ahead, South Africa prepares to face the Netherlands on Tuesday, the 17th, while Australia will regroup and strategize for their upcoming match against Sri Lanka on Monday, the 16th of October, at the same venue in Lucknow.
