South African sprint hurdler Marione Fourie has had a solid start to 2025, delivering strong performances as she prepares for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, from 21-23 March.
Fourie recently opened her outdoor season with a 12.77s run in the 100m hurdles at the ASA Grand Prix 1—her fastest season opener to date and the current world-leading time. The result has given her confidence heading into the Indoor Championships.
“I wasn’t sure how my pre-season training had set me up for fast times, but after this performance, I feel ready,” Fourie shared after her race. “I’m looking forward to competing at World Indoors and testing myself against top competition.”

Earlier this year, Fourie set a new South African 60m hurdles record at the CMCM Indoor Meet in Luxembourg, clocking 7.91s in the heats before winning the final in 7.98s. The performance placed her among the top African athletes in the event and confirmed her strong form for the indoor season.
Fourie is part of a five-member South African team heading to China, alongside Akani Simbine (60m), Cheswill Johnson (long jump), Chris van Niekerk (shot put), and Prudence Sekgodiso (800m). Athletics South Africa President James Moloi has expressed confidence in the team, noting that Fourie is particularly motivated going into the championships.
“With Marione, you can see she is determined to perform well at these championships. We believe she has prepared well and can compete strongly,” Moloi said.
As she prepares for the challenge ahead, Fourie will be aiming to deliver a competitive performance on the world stage. With her recent results, she is in good shape to represent South Africa well at the World Indoor Championships.
