Michaela Whitebooi: Flag Bearer for Team South Africa
The 2023 Summer World University Games (also known as the FISU World University Games) will be held in Chengdu, China from July 28 to August 8, 2023. The event marks the 32nd edition of the Summer World University Games, and it is the first time that the games will be held in China.
Over 8,000 athletes from over 150 countries are expected to compete in 18 different sports, including athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, fencing, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling.
The games will be held at a number of venues in Chengdu, including the Chengdu Sports Center, the Sichuan International Tennis Center, and the Chengdu Olympic Sports Center. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at the Chengdu Tianfu Stadium, which is the largest stadium in Chengdu and has a capacity of over 100,000 people.
The 2023 World University Games are a major sporting event, and they are expected to attract a large number of spectators from around the world. The games will also provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and compete for international honors.

Team South Africa
Team South Africa has a strong contingent of over 200 athletes representing their country at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China. The opening ceremony is set to take place on July 28, and the flag bearer for Team South Africa will be Michaela Whitebooi.
Whitebooi represented South Africa at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she claimed the gold medal in the women’s 48kg division. She has confirmed that she is honoured to be chosen to lead the team into the games during the opening ceremony, and she is also aiming for medal positions at this, her first university world games.
