Six New Caps Included as South Africa Targets Success in Kuala Lumpur
South African Hockey has officially named the men’s national squad for the upcoming FIH Nations Cup, scheduled to take place from 15 to 21 June 2025 at the National Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Placed in Pool A, South Africa will face France, Korea, and Wales in the group stage. The tournament begins with a crucial opener against Wales on 15 June. With valuable FIH world ranking points on offer, the Nations Cup presents both a competitive challenge and a key developmental milestone for the team.
The 18-man squad includes six uncapped players, highlighting a generational shift within the national setup. Jaydon Brooker, Carlon Mentoor, Jamie Seale, Reuben Sendzul, Marvin Simons, and Angelo Walstroom have earned their first call-ups, following standout performances and strong showings at a recent national training camp in Pretoria, which featured an intense Green vs. Gold series.

Veteran leadership will be provided by Dan Bell (111 caps) and goalkeeper Gowan Jones (95 caps), who return to anchor a team that blends experience with emerging talent. Midfielder Estiaan Kriek rejoins the squad fresh from a successful stint with Kampong in the Netherlands, where he helped secure a silver medal in the Hoofdklasse. Also making their return to international duty are Matt de Sousa and Trevor de Lora, both bringing vital tournament experience.
South Africa enters the 2025 Nations Cup with a strong pedigree, having captured the gold medal in the inaugural edition in 2022 and a bronze in 2024. With confidence high following recent international outings, including Olympic participation, the team will aim to build on its proud record in the tournament.
