Johannesburg — The stage is set at Orlando Stadium for Friday, 29 May 2026, as Bafana Bafana take on Nicaragua in a crucial international friendly. This fixture serves as the senior men’s national team’s official send-off before they cross the Atlantic to begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in North America.

With kick-off scheduled for 18:00 SAST, this clash offers South African fans one final opportunity to witness coach Hugo Broos’s squad in action on home soil.

The Road to Pachuca

This friendly is far more than just a ceremonial farewell. Facing a Central American side like Nicaragua provides a calculated tactical rehearsal. The opposition was selected to mirror the regional playing styles, pace, and intensity Bafana will encounter in their crucial opening World Cup fixture against tournament co-hosts Mexico.

Following the final whistle on Friday, the squad will fly to their official World Cup base camp in Pachuca, Mexico. There, they will utilize the high-performance training facilities at the Universidad del Fútbol to finalize their systems.

Bafana Bafana faces a demanding task in North America. Drawn into a tricky Group A, South Africa will open their tournament against Mexico on 11 June at the legendary Azteca Stadium, followed by critical group-stage clashes against the Czech Republic and South Korea.

Friday night under the Orlando Stadium lights will be a showcase of speed and tactical discipline. Our team will be pitch-side with the long lenses to capture every high-speed moment and exclusive player reaction, bringing you the highest quality digital coverage straight from the touchline.
