The South African Indoor Hockey Men, sponsored by Tops at SPAR, made history by reaching their first-ever FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup semi-final. Their journey, which had already exceeded expectations, faced a stern test against Germany—a team with a strong track record, including three World Cup titles—at a packed venue in Poreč, Croatia.
South Africa entered the match without their most experienced player, Justin Domleo, who was ruled out due to injury, adding pressure to their defensive setup. Germany started strongly, scoring the opening goal, but South Africa responded well as Dalpiarro Langford equalized to keep them in contention. However, Germany regained control, scoring twice before halftime to establish a firm grip on the match.

A key moment came when Mustapha Cassiem stepped up for a penalty stroke, won by his brother Dayaan Cassiem, but the German goalkeeper made a crucial save, preventing South Africa from closing the gap.
Germany extended their lead early in the second half and maintained control of the match. In the closing minutes, South Africa opted to remove their goalkeeper in an attempt to push forward, but Germany capitalized on the situation, scoring twice more to secure a 6-1 victory and advance to the final.

Despite the defeat, South Africa created several scoring chances but were denied by an outstanding performance from the German goalkeeper, who was named Player of the Match.
South Africa now turns their attention to the bronze medal match, where they will aim to conclude their tournament with a strong performance and a podium finish.
