OSLO, NORWAY — Two South African athletes, Sinesipho Dambile and Tshepo Tshite, competed at the Bislett Stadion last night for the Oslo Bislett Games, marking the sixth event of the Diamond League season.
Operating in cold and wet conditions in the Norwegian capital, both athletes delivered steady performances that provided positive indicators for their ongoing season goals.
Dambile Consistently on the Podium
Sinesipho Dambile lined up in a competitive 200m field that included Botswana’s Olympic Gold Medalist Letsile Tebogo and Australian teenager Gout Gout, who was making his Diamond League debut.
Navigating the challenging weather, Dambile claimed second place, clocking in at 20.12 seconds. He finished behind Tebogo, who took the win with a time of 19.84 seconds. Gout Gout finished in sixth place with a time of 20.60 seconds.
This marks Dambile’s third Diamond League appearance of the year, building on a consistent run of form following a third-place finish in Morocco (20.03) and a second-place finish last week in Sweden (20.10).
Dambile’s 2026 Season Overview:
- Current Season Best (and PB): 19.77 seconds (Kenya, April 2026)
- National Title: Claimed his third consecutive 200m national title in Stellenbosch (18 April) with a time of 20.02 seconds at sea level.
In a recent post-race interview with Sport South Africa following his national title win, Dambile noted that he feels he is continually getting faster and remains focused on pushing for more sub-20-second results as the season progresses.

Tshite Tests Endurance in the 5000m
In the men’s 5000m, Tshepo Tshite finished in 16th position with a time of 13:20.92. While a lower placement against the long-distance specialists, the time marks both a season’s best and a new personal best for the athlete.
This was his first 5000m race of the season, having not competed in distances over 3000m previously this year. This longer run appears to be part of a broader, exploratory training plan designed to build endurance for his primary events, the 1500m and 3000m. His last recorded 5000m race was on 20 April 2024, where he ran 13:35.54 in Pietermaritzburg.
This was Tshite’s second Diamond League appearance of the season. In late May, he competed in the 1500m event in Morocco, securing fifth place with a time of 3:31.53, just outside his national record of 3:31.35 set in Paris last year.
