Hockey South Africa has unveiled its national squad for the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup, which takes place in Santiago, Chile, from 1–13 December 2025.
The announcement marks South Africa’s ninth appearance at the global junior tournament, secured earlier this year when the team claimed the African Championship title in Namibia.
Blend of Experience and New Talent
The 18-player squad features a mix of seasoned campaigners and fresh faces. Seven players return for another World Cup cycle after competing in the 2023 edition, including Olympians Paris-Gail Isaacs, Ntsopa Mokoena, and Taheera Augousti.
However, the side will be without Jenna Blaauw, who misses out due to injury. Her absence opens the door for new players to stake their claim on the international stage.
Group Stage Challenge
South Africa has been drawn into Pool D, where they will face Austria, China, and England in the opening phase of the newly expanded 24-team competition. A strong pool finish will be vital to secure a favourable playoff pathway and improve the team’s chances of advancing deep into the tournament.
Confidence from Management
SA Hockey High Performance Executive Reggie Smith expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and potential:
“This team reflects the exciting pipeline of South African hockey. With a core of experienced players from the last Junior World Cup and fresh talent pushing through, we believe this squad has the quality to compete and to inspire. They will carry our hopes proudly on the world stage.”
