Sunday, 5 October 2025 – New Delhi, India
Team South Africa finished their World Para Athletics Championships campaign in style on the ninth and final day of competition, adding two gold medals to conclude their tally at four medals in total.
Heading into the last day, South Africa had already secured two bronze medals courtesy of Collen Mahlalela in the men’s T47 400m and Sheryl James in the women’s T37 400m. But Sunday’s performances ensured a golden finish for the team.
In the women’s F38 discus throw, world record holder Simone Kruger once again underlined her dominance in the event, producing a season’s best of 37.39m to claim the gold medal. China’s Na Mi (36.53m) and Yingli Li (36.10m) completed the podium, both also recording their season’s best marks.
Later in the day, Puseletso Mabote delivered another standout performance for South Africa in the men’s T63 100m final, storming to gold with a new championship record of 12.03 seconds. He finished ahead of Indonesia’s Partin and Denmark’s Daniel Wagner in what was one of the most competitive finals of the championships — with all six finalists clocking sub-13-second times.
These results lifted South Africa’s final medal tally to two golds and two bronzes, placing the nation 30th on the overall medal table.
This year’s championships were among the most competitive in history, with a record 65 countries winning medals — the highest number ever recorded at a single World Para Athletics event.
For Team South Africa, the four-medal haul reflected both experience and emerging talent across the squad, signaling a strong platform to build on heading into future international competitions.
