The Australian Diamonds continued their dominance over the SPAR Proteas with a commanding 65–42 victory in Adelaide on Sunday, 12 October 2025, sealing a 3–0 series whitewash.
The SPAR Proteas entered the final match eager to bounce back from their defeat in Wollongong. Although the series had already been decided, South Africa were determined to finish on a high and regain some confidence.
South Africa started strongly, keeping the world champions on the back foot for most of the opening quarter. However, the Diamonds showed their class in the closing minutes, scoring seven unanswered goals to take the quarter 20–11.
The Proteas began the second quarter with renewed energy, using their speed and quick ball movement to close the gap. Head coach Jenny van Dyk made two tactical substitutions mid-quarter, bringing on Owethu Ngubane for Kamogelo Maseko and handing Juanita van Tonder her debut in place of Nicola Smith at goalkeeper. Despite the changes, Australia’s experience shone through as they extended their lead, taking the quarter 19–9 and heading into halftime ahead 39–20.
The “championship quarter” saw further adjustments from van Dyk, with Rolene Streutker and Refiloe Nketsa entering the court. The Proteas showed resilience, matching their hosts in intensity and taking the quarter 12–10, though Australia still held a comfortable 49–32 advantage heading into the final period.
In the last quarter, the Proteas continued to fight but could not contain a dominant and physical Diamonds outfit, who added another 16 goals to South Africa’s 10 to secure a 65–42 victory — underlining their status as the world’s best netball nation.
“Firstly, we would like to congratulate Australia on their fantastic performance,” said Jenny van Dyk, SPAR Proteas head coach.
“There were moments where we were right on point, especially in attack, but we know there’s still a lot of work to do. Many of our areas for improvement require deeper development, not quick fixes.
This series was a big eye-opener — a valuable learning experience that showed us where our players are strong, how they adapt, and what we need to refine going forward.”
